Digital marketing agency in Nigeria: how clinics should choose one

Before you hire a marketing agency, know what to ask, which red flags to walk away from and why your clinic should own every account.

By the Kren Agency team ·

A good digital marketing agency in Nigeria should be judged on one thing for a clinic: more booked, paying patients. Before you hire one, ask how they report bookings, who will own your website and ad accounts, and how they keep your adverts within medical rules. If the answers are vague, keep looking.

Many clinics have paid for marketing that produced likes, reach and a monthly PDF, while the front desk saw no change. This post shows what to expect, what to ask, the red flags and what your clinic must keep doing itself.

What should a marketing agency actually do for a clinic?

Patients reach a clinic through calls, DMs, website forms, Google Maps and walk-ins. A useful agency works on every step between “I need a dentist” and a patient sitting in your chair.

  • Get found. Your website, your Google Business Profile and, where it makes sense, paid ads on Google, Facebook and Instagram.
  • Turn interest into enquiries. Clear pages, a phone number that rings, a simple way to book.
  • Stop enquiries going cold. Fast replies, reminders and follow-ups for people who asked but never booked.
  • Report what matters. Enquiries by source, bookings and show-ups each month.

Likes and followers can grow while your bookings stay flat. Ask for numbers you can check against your own appointment list.

Questions to ask before you hire a digital marketing agency in Nigeria

Google publishes its own advice for business owners hiring an SEO, and most of it applies to any marketing partner (Google Search Central: Do you need an SEO?). Its suggested questions include asking for examples of past work, what results to expect and in what timeframe, and how they measure success. Ask these on your first call:

  1. Have you worked with clinics before, and in Lagos or Abuja?
  2. What will you report every month, and can I see a sample report?
  3. How will you count bookings, and how will you know which ones came from your work?
  4. Will the website, domain, Google Business Profile and ad accounts be in the clinic’s name?
  5. Who checks adverts for medical claims before they go live?
  6. What happens to our accounts and files if we stop working together?

Watch how they answer. A good partner asks about your services, your competitors and how patients find you today.

Red flags to walk away from

  • Promised rankings. Google says nobody can promise a top spot on Google, and that if an SEO promises first place you should find someone else.
  • They keep your accounts. Your Google profile, ad accounts or domain sit under the agency’s name, so leaving means starting again.
  • Secret methods. Google warns business owners to be careful when a company won’t clearly explain what it plans to do.
  • No real reporting. Reports full of reach and impressions, with no enquiries or bookings.
  • Fake or bought reviews. They mislead patients, and your profile carries the risk. Our post on getting Google reviews within the rules covers the safe way.
  • Bold medical claims. Adverts that promise results or show patient details put your licence at risk.

Google also reminds owners that they are responsible for the actions of any company they hire. The clinic’s name is on every advert.

Who should own the website, domain and ad accounts?

The clinic should own every account. The agency gets access to do the work. Put this in the contract.

  • Domain name and website: registered to the clinic. The agency gets a login to edit and maintain them.
  • Google Business Profile: the clinic is primary owner. The agency gets manager access.
  • Google Ads account: created in the clinic’s name. The agency gets user access to run campaigns.
  • Facebook and Instagram ad accounts: held in the clinic’s Meta business portfolio. The agency gets partner access.

On Google Business Profile, a profile can have several owners but only one primary owner, and managers can’t add or remove users or delete the profile (Google Business Profile Help: owners and managers). Keep primary ownership on a clinic email. Our post on setting up a Google Business Profile for clinics walks through it.

The contract should also state the scope of work, what is reported and when, the notice period, and that all logins, files and designs are handed over if you part ways.

What your clinic must keep doing itself

No agency can replace your front desk. Marketing brings the enquiry. Your team turns it into a patient.

  • Answer calls and messages during clinic hours.
  • Do the final follow-up and confirm bookings.
  • Approve every advert and page that describes a treatment.
  • Tell the agency when prices, hours, services or staff change.

If enquiries already slip through at the front desk, fix that first. More adverts only send more patients into the same gap.

Why Kren works only with clinics

Kren is a team that works only with private clinics and hospitals in Lagos and Abuja. We set up and run your website, Google presence, ads, follow-ups and bookings, then report enquiries and booked patients. Your accounts stay in your clinic’s name. Your front desk does the final follow-up and booking. See everything we handle for clinics, or how we run lead generation for clinics.

Questions clinic owners ask before hiring an agency

How do I measure whether a marketing agency is working?

Count enquiries by source, booked appointments and patients who showed up, month by month. Compare them with the months before the agency started. Reach and likes alone don’t tell you if the clinic is growing.

Can an agency get my clinic to the top of Google quickly?

Nobody can promise a top position. Google says so in its own advice on hiring an SEO. A good partner explains what it will change and what results are realistic over time.

Should the agency create my Google and Meta ad accounts?

The accounts should be created in the clinic’s name, with a clinic email. The agency is then given access to run them. That way your history and data stay with you.

Is it safe to show patient results in clinic adverts?

Be very careful. Adverts should never promise outcomes, exaggerate results or reveal patient details. Have a doctor approve every advert before it goes live.
