Healthcare marketing agency: what a good one does

What a good healthcare marketing agency does for a clinic: works inside health ad rules, reports bookings, owns the path to a booked visit and protects privacy.

By the Kren Agency team ·

A good healthcare marketing agency brings in patients for the treatments you want filled, keeps every ad and page inside the advertising rules of your profession, protects patient privacy, and reports booked visits instead of likes. It takes charge of the path from a patient's search to a booked visit. Your team keeps the care and the final booking.

That sounds obvious. Yet many clinics in Lagos and Abuja hire agencies that treat them like a fashion brand: loud promos, fake urgency and before-and-afters nobody approved. Here are the four things that separate a healthcare marketing agency worth paying from one that puts your name at risk.

Four tests for any agency that wants to market your clinic.

Does the agency know the advertising rules for health?

Health ads are held to a stricter standard than shoe ads, by the ad networks themselves as well as your profession.

Meta's Advertising Standards say ads must not assert or imply personal attributes, and that list includes physical or mental health, including medical conditions. Meta's own examples allow "Depression counseling" but reject "Do you have diabetes?" (Meta Advertising Standards: privacy violations and personal attributes). Meta also says lead ads must not ask for health information, such as medical conditions, without its prior permission.

Google restricts many healthcare and medicine ads too. Some categories run only in certain countries, and some only for advertisers Google has certified. Advertisers must also follow local law wherever their ads run.

Two clinic ads compared: one asking a patient about their condition, rejected, and one describing a fertility consultation service, approved
Describe the service. Never tell people what you think is wrong with them.

What good looks like in practice:

  • Ads talk about the service and the clinic, never about the reader's condition.
  • No promised outcomes and no exaggerated claims.
  • Patient photos and stories only with the patient's consent.
  • Your medical director approves every ad, page and message before it goes live.

Does it measure bookings, or likes?

Followers don't pay your rent. Booked, paying patients do.

A healthcare marketing agency that knows its job reports the numbers that end at your front desk. Ask to see a sample monthly report before you sign. It should show:

  1. Where each enquiry came from: Google, ads, calls, DMs, forms or walk-ins.
  2. How many enquiries became bookings.
  3. Which treatments and time slots are filling, and which are not.
  4. What the agency is changing next month, and why.

A report you can read in two minutes and act on.

If the report leads with reach, impressions and likes, the agency is measuring its own activity, and your bookings are an afterthought.

Who owns the path from search to booked visit?

More enquiries into a clinic that misses calls is paid-for loss. So a good agency doesn't stop at the ad. It looks at the page the patient lands on, how fast every call, DM and form gets a reply, and whether booked patients get reminders and recalls.

We covered that whole path, and what a marketer usually leaves out, in what a clinic growth partner does that marketers don't. The short version: one team should be answerable for every step, so nobody can blame the step before theirs.

How does it protect patient privacy?

Patients share things with clinics they would never post publicly. Your marketing has to respect that.

Nigeria has a data protection regulator, the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, established under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (Nigeria Data Protection Commission). A careful agency builds your enquiry routes with that law in mind.

Ask for what you need to book. Nothing more.

Signs of an agency that takes privacy seriously:

  • Booking forms ask for what is needed to book, not symptoms or history.
  • Enquiries reach only the staff who need to see them.
  • No patient details in ads, posts or case studies.
  • Messages and reminders stay discreet, so nothing personal shows on a lock screen.

What should stay with your clinic?

A good agency is clear about where its work ends. At Kren we run the getting-found, the website, the follow-up automations and the reporting. Your team keeps four things:

  • Clinical care and the patient experience.
  • The final follow-up and booking. Your team picks up the warm enquiries and confirms each appointment.
  • Your priorities. Which treatments, doctors and slots to fill, and how many patients you can take.
  • Final sign-off on every page, ad and message.

Questions clinic owners ask about a healthcare marketing agency

Can a healthcare marketing agency promise a number of new patients?

It shouldn't. Medical advertising should never promise outcomes, and nobody controls every patient's choice. A good agency agrees targets with you, tracks every enquiry until it becomes a booking and shows you the numbers each month.

Do we need an agency that only works with clinics?

It helps. An agency that knows health ad rules, privacy and how a front desk really works makes fewer costly mistakes. Kren works only with private clinics and hospitals in Lagos and Abuja.

Will the agency reply to our patients?

At Kren, no. We set up instant replies, missed-call text-backs, reminders and recalls. Your own team does the final follow-up and confirms each booking, because patients want to speak with the clinic that will care for them.

What happens on the strategy call?

On a 30-minute strategy call we review your clinic live and show you where patients are slipping away. You leave with your three biggest fixes, whether you work with us or not, and you see the plan before you pay anything. See which clinics we work with on our clinics page.
