Meta Ads Manager for clinics: a walkthrough for owners

How Meta Ads Manager is laid out, which objective and audience a clinic should use, how to read cost per booking, and the health ad rules Meta enforces.

Meta Ads Manager is where you build, run and measure ads on Facebook and Instagram. For a clinic, it lets you choose the result you want, such as patient enquiries, and see what each one cost. Here is how Meta Ads Manager is laid out, which settings matter for a clinic, and the health ad rules Meta enforces.

Why do so many clinic ads bring likes and no bookings?

Most clinics start by boosting a post. The likes come in. The phone stays quiet. Nobody can say which ad brought which patient.

The fix starts with three decisions made on purpose: what result you ask Meta for, who sees the ad, and how you count bookings afterwards. Ads Manager is where you make all three.

How is Meta Ads Manager organised?

Every ad sits inside three levels. Meta’s developer documentation describes them like this:

  • Campaign. Sets the objective, the one result you want from the spend.
  • Ad set. Holds the budget and the targeting, including location.
  • Ad. The creative people see: the picture or video, the words and the button.

A dental clinic might run one campaign for enquiries. Inside it, one ad set reaches people near the Lekki branch and another near the Ikeja branch. Each ad set tests two or three ads.

Keep the clinic’s ad account inside a business portfolio in Meta Business Suite that the clinic itself owns. Whoever runs the ads should get access, never ownership.

Which objective should a clinic choose?

Ads Manager offers six objectives: Awareness, Traffic, Engagement, Leads, App promotion and Sales. Pick the one that matches the result you want.

  1. Leads suits most clinics. You ask Meta for people who send an enquiry.
  2. Sales fits once your website records a booking request through the Meta pixel (more on that below).
  3. Engagement brings likes, comments and shares. Pleasant to see, and rarely a booked patient.
  4. Traffic sends visits to a page. Visits are not enquiries.

Run clinic campaigns from Ads Manager, where you set the objective, audience and budget yourself, instead of pressing Boost on a post and accepting the defaults.

Who should see your clinic’s ads?

At the ad set level you narrow the audience by location, age, gender and interests. For a clinic, location does the heavy lifting.

  • Target the areas your patients actually travel from. A Wuse clinic may draw from Maitama and Jabi, and rarely from across the city.
  • Cosmetic procedures need an adult audience. Meta says these ads “must be targeted to people at least 18 years or older.”

Budget and schedule

The budget lives on the ad set. Start with one ad set per branch so you can see which area brings enquiries. Then time the ads so enquiries land when your front desk can answer them. An ad that brings messages at midnight, with nobody replying until noon, pays for leads you lose.

What does the Meta pixel do for a clinic?

The Meta pixel is, in Meta’s words, “a piece of JavaScript code that you add to your website.” It reports actions people take after seeing your ad, such as page views and other standard events. Meta uses that to measure results and to find more people likely to act.

  • Track the action that matters: a submitted booking request, not every page view.
  • Check the setup in Events Manager, where Meta lets you monitor and fix it.
  • Meta recommends pairing the pixel with its Conversions API for better event coverage.
  • Send no treatment names or patient details with any event.

How do you read Meta Ads Manager results?

Two numbers tell you whether the ads earn their keep:

  1. Cost per lead. Amount spent divided by enquiries. Ads Manager shows this for you.
  2. Cost per booking. Amount spent divided by patients who actually booked. Ads Manager can’t see a booking made by phone, so your front desk has to count them.

If cost per lead looks fine and bookings don’t follow, the leak is usually after the ad: slow replies, missed calls, no follow-up. We cover that in how to stop losing patients in your DMs.

What are Meta’s rules for health and clinic ads?

Meta’s Advertising Standards on personal attributes bar ads that assert or imply a person’s physical or mental health condition, or “imply knowledge of medical information of a user or user’s family.” Meta’s own examples make the line clear: “Do you have diabetes?” is not allowed, while “New diabetes treatment available” is.

Clinic versions of the same rule:

  • Rejected: “Struggling to get pregnant?” Fine: “Fertility consultations in Abuja.”
  • Rejected: “Is your smile embarrassing you?” Fine: “Teeth whitening at our Lekki clinic.”

Meta’s health and wellness policy adds more. Ads can’t contain “statements of inferiority about physical appearance.” Ads for sexual and reproductive health services must target people 18 or older. Your profession’s own advertising rules apply on top: no promised outcomes and no patient details.

How Kren runs Meta ads for clinics

Kren is a done-for-you team for private clinics in Lagos and Abuja. We set up your business portfolio, pixel and campaigns, write ads within Meta’s health rules and track cost per booking each week. That is our lead generation work. Our follow-up automations make sure every enquiry gets a fast first reply, and your own team does the final follow-up and booking.

We do this for skin and aesthetic clinics, dental, fertility and more. On a 30-minute strategy call, we look at your current ads and enquiries with you. Show me where my clinic is losing patients →

Questions clinic owners ask about Meta Ads Manager

Can we show before-and-after photos in Meta ads?

Meta’s health and wellness policy allows before-and-after images for general cosmetic procedures, with the 18+ audience rule. Check your professional body’s rules too, and never use a patient’s photo without written consent.

Can we target people with a specific medical condition?

Your ad can’t assert or imply that the reader has a condition. Target by location and age, and let the ad name the service plainly.

How do we know which Meta ads bring patients?

Ads Manager shows cost per lead. For cost per booking, your front desk records which enquiries booked, and you divide spend by that number each week. Run one ad set per branch so the numbers stay clear.
