Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria: registering an imaging centre

The RRBN practice permit for imaging centres: documents, portal steps, stated fees, inspection and renewal, taken from the Board’s own pages.

By the Kren Agency team ·

To register an imaging centre with the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN), you apply for a Radiography Practice Permit on the Board’s monitoring portal. You upload your incorporation certificate, Form C07, your radiographer’s practising licence and proof of fee payment. RRBN then checks the documents, inspects the facility and issues the permit.

Everything below comes from the Board’s own pages: the RRBN Inspection and Monitoring Portal, its application guidelines and FAQ, and the Registration Department’s fee list on portal.rrbn.gov.ng. Fees and screens change, so confirm with the Board before you pay.

What does the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria regulate?

RRBN is a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Health. It was set up by Decree No. 42 of 1987, now Cap R1 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, to regulate the practice of radiography in Nigeria. It keeps the register of radiographers and renews their licences.

For a centre owner, the Inspection and Monitoring Department matters most. It visits hospitals and diagnostic centres, keeps a database of facilities the Board has registered and accredited, and handles complaints of malpractice. Its portal holds each facility’s address, equipment list, covering radiographers and registration status.

Which RRBN application fits your centre?

The portal’s home page offers three routes:

  • Practice Permit: for private hospitals (non-teaching) and diagnostic centres. This is where most private imaging centres start.
  • Internship accreditation, private: for private facilities that want to train intern radiographers.
  • Internship accreditation, government: for public hospitals, private teaching hospitals and private radiotherapy centres.

Requirements before you apply

The new registration page and the portal FAQ list these:

  1. A valid Certificate of Incorporation. The FAQ says evidence of business name registration is also acceptable. See our post on CAC business name registration.
  2. Form C07 showing the names and particulars of your directors and radiographers.
  3. The current practising licence, or evidence of payment, of your Radiographer in charge and any other radiographers.
  4. A letter of resignation from the Radiographer in charge’s previous job, if applicable.
  5. The Radiographer in charge’s NYSC discharge or exemption certificate.
  6. Evidence of payment of the registration fee.

How much does RRBN charge?

The portal’s new registration page states a registration fee of ₦200,000, plus ₦20,000 for each imaging modality in the centre. The annual practice permit renewal page states ₦50,000. Payments are generated through Remita to the Board’s TSA account and can be completed at any commercial bank.

The portal’s FAQ still quotes ₦50,000 for registration, so the figures don’t fully agree. Ask RRBN for the current amount before you generate a payment.

How to register an imaging centre on the RRBN portal

The Board’s application guidelines set out this order:

  1. Go to monitoring.rrbn.gov.ng and select “Apply for Practice Permit”.
  2. Read the guidelines page and click “Agree & Proceed”.
  3. Complete the New Hospital Profile Creation Form. This creates your account.
  4. Sign in with the email and password you used on that form.
  5. On your dashboard, click “Continue Application”, then the Action button on the table (the first action is “Register”).
  6. Submit the centre’s details, certificate of incorporation, Form C07, the radiographer’s licence and evidence of payment.
  7. Return through “Continue Application” to pick up wherever you stopped and to follow progress.

What happens after you submit?

RRBN verifies your documents and payment, then schedules the facility for inspection. The FAQ says the Board typically processes requests within two weeks of submission, and email is its main way of telling you about inspections. Keep your contact details current.

After inspection, the last stage gives you an electronic copy of your permit to download and print. The new registration page says provisional registration is valid for two years.

Renewal: the permit and your radiographers

  • The centre: the renewal page says a Radiography Practice Permit is valid for one year. Renewal asks for your incorporation certificate, Form C07, a passport photograph and current licence of the Radiographer in charge, and the renewal fee. The Registrar/CEO gives final approval.
  • Your radiographers: the Registration Department’s 2024 fee list sets the annual practising licence at ₦20,000, with a ₦20,000 fine for late payment from 1 April each year. Sonographers have their own lines on the same list.

Planning to train interns?

The private internship page says a centre needs at least two functioning radiography modalities and at least two Senior Radiographers with current licences. It lists ₦200,000 plus ₦50,000 per modality, minimum two. Provisional accreditation lasts two years and full accreditation four.

An RRBN permit lets you scan. It doesn’t make referring doctors or self-paying patients pick you over the centre down the road. They pick the centre that shows up on Google, answers fast and confirms a slot.
