Digital marketing agency in Abuja: how clinics should choose

Choosing a digital marketing agency in Abuja for your clinic? What to ask, what to expect in the first months and the red flags to walk away from.

By the Kren Agency team ·

A digital marketing agency in Abuja should bring your clinic more booked patients from the districts you can actually serve. In practice that means a Google presence built around your address, adverts aimed at the areas near your branch, quick follow-up on every enquiry and a monthly count of bookings. Before you sign, ask how they will measure bookings, who will own your accounts and how they handle medical advertising rules.

Our post on choosing a digital marketing agency in Nigeria covers contracts and account ownership in depth. This one is for clinic owners, medical directors and managers in the Federal Capital Territory.

What should a digital marketing agency in Abuja do for your clinic?

The work is the same five jobs, done well and tied together:

  1. Get you found. A complete Google Business Profile for each branch, and treatment pages patients can find.
  2. Earn trust. A clear website, real photos of your rooms and team, and a steady flow of honest reviews.
  3. Bring in enquiries. Google and Meta adverts for the treatments you want more of, aimed at nearby districts.
  4. Answer every enquiry. Calls, DMs and forms logged in one place, with reminders so no one is forgotten.
  5. Count bookings. A monthly report of enquiries, bookings and show-ups by source.

If an agency only offers posts and likes, it covers a small slice of that list.

How do patients in Abuja find a clinic?

Most start on a phone. They search for a treatment, often with a district name: "dentist in Wuse", "fertility clinic in Maitama", "physiotherapy near me". They open two or three Google profiles, read the reviews and call or message the one that looks clearest.

Google's own help page says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence. Distance means how far each business is from the person searching (Google Business Profile Help: how local results are ranked). So a clinic in Garki will struggle to appear for a search made in Gwarinpa.

The same page says businesses with complete and accurate details are more likely to show in local results. That is basic work any good agency should finish in the first weeks. Our post on how a dental clinic in Abuja can stand out shows what that looks like for one specialty.

Questions to ask before you hire an agency in Abuja

Ask these on the first call. Good answers are short and specific.

  1. How will you measure success? Look for booked and attended patients. Reach and followers alone tell you little.
  2. Who owns the accounts? Your Google profile, ad accounts, website and domain should sit in your clinic's name, with the agency added as a user.
  3. Which treatments will you start with? A clear plan picks one or two high-value treatments first.
  4. Which districts will the adverts reach? They should name the areas around your branch and explain why.
  5. What happens after someone enquires? Ask how calls, DMs and forms are tracked and followed up.
  6. Who approves the adverts? Someone at your clinic should sign off every advert before it runs.

Red flags when choosing an agency

  • A promised top spot on Google Maps. Google states there's no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. Anyone selling one is guessing.
  • Fake or bought reviews. They put your profile at risk. Our post on getting Google reviews within the rules shows the safe way.
  • Accounts held in the agency's name. If you part ways, you could lose your profile, pages and advert history.
  • Reports full of likes and no bookings. You can't run a clinic on impressions.
  • Adverts that promise outcomes. Medical advertising must avoid promised results, exaggerated claims and patient details.
  • No plan for follow-up. More enquiries into a busy front desk often means more missed calls.

What should you expect in the first months?

Expect set-up before results. A good team starts by checking your Google profile, website, enquiry routes and how your front desk handles calls. Then it builds the pages and tracking, and only then turns on adverts.

After launch, you should get a regular review that names what is working, what is not and what changes next. You should also be able to ask "how many patients booked from this?" and get a straight number. Our post on how our clinic ads work walks through that process step by step.

Check your PHERMC registration before you advertise

In the FCT, private health facilities register with the Private Health Establishments Registration and Monitoring Committee (PHERMC). A 2023 Voice of Nigeria report on a PHERMC monitoring tour says facilities found below the recommended standard, or offering services beyond their approved scope, will be sealed off (Voice of Nigeria: FCTA moves to seal health facilities).

That matters for marketing. Advertise only the services your registration covers, and keep your listings and adverts in line with it.

Questions clinic owners ask about Abuja agencies

Does my agency need to be based in Abuja?

It helps. A team that knows the FCT understands the districts your patients name and can visit your clinic. What matters most is that it reports booked patients and follows medical advertising rules.

Can an agency get my clinic to the top of Google Maps?

No one can promise that. Google says there's no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. A good team improves what Google looks at: relevance, complete details and reviews.

Should I advertise to the whole of Abuja?

Start with the districts patients can reach easily from your branch. Widen slowly, and pull back from any area that brings enquiries but no bookings.

Who should own my Google profile and ad accounts?

Your clinic. Keep them in the clinic's name and add the agency as a user. That way your profile, reviews and advert history stay with you.
