SEO agency in Lagos: what clinics and hospitals should get

Local search in Lagos is won branch by branch. Here is what an SEO team should set up for your clinic, and what to refuse.

By the Kren Agency team ·

A good SEO agency in Lagos helps your clinic show up for patients who can actually reach you. That means one Google Business Profile for each real branch, area pages only where you truly see patients, steady reviews and links from real Lagos organisations. It also means a team you can meet, that reports booked patients every month.

Our post on choosing a digital marketing agency in Lagos covers ads, follow-up and reporting. This one covers search alone: what local SEO for a Lagos clinic or hospital should include, and what to refuse.

Why is SEO in Lagos so local?

A patient in Ajah rarely wants a dentist in Ikeja. Traffic makes distance a real cost.

Google's local results reflect this. Google says they are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence, where distance means how far each business is from the person searching (Google Business Profile Help: how local ranking works). The same page says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking.

So no SEO agency in Lagos can make one branch appear everywhere in the city. What it can do is make each branch the clear, trusted choice in its own area.

One Google profile per real branch

For most clinics, the Google Business Profile does more work than the website. Google's guidelines for representing your business set clear rules a local team should follow:

  1. One profile per location. Google says not to create more than one profile for each location. Your Lekki and Ikeja branches each get their own.
  2. Your real name only. Taglines and location details in the business name are not permitted. "Top Dental Clinic Lekki Phase 1" breaks the rule if that isn't your name.
  3. A real, staffed address. A rented mailing address you don't work from is not eligible. The address must be where patients are seen.
  4. Doctors, with care. Google lists doctors and dentists as individual practitioners. A public-facing doctor who can be reached at the clinic during its hours may have a dedicated profile, but not one per specialty.

Our post on Google Business Profile for clinics covers the full set-up.

Area pages only where you truly serve

Some agencies sell "location pages": dozens of near-identical pages for Yaba, Ikoyi, Festac, Ajah and every other area, each one pointing to the same clinic. This is a trap.

Google's spam policies name it directly. Doorway abuse includes "multiple domain names or pages targeted at specific regions or cities that funnel users to one page". Scaled content abuse covers many pages made mainly to rank, with little value for readers. Sites that break these policies can rank lower or drop out of results.

The honest version is simple:

  • One page per branch, with its address, hours, directions from nearby landmarks and the treatments offered there.
  • One page per treatment you want to grow.
  • No page for an area where you have no branch and no real patient flow.

Reviews, branch by branch

Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help local ranking. In Lagos, that work happens per branch, because each profile collects its own reviews.

Ask every patient at the end of the visit, with a short link to that branch's profile. Reply to every review without confirming anyone's treatment in public. Our post on getting Google reviews within the rules shows how to ask without breaking Google's policies.

Google's local ranking page says prominence draws on how many websites link to your business. For a clinic, the useful links come from real relationships:

  • Community. A health talk at a church, mosque, school or estate association, listed on their website.
  • Partners. A hospital, diagnostic lab or pharmacy you refer patients to and receive referrals from.
  • Professional bodies. Member listings from associations you genuinely belong to.
  • Local news. Coverage of a real event.

Avoid the shortcuts. Google's spam policies list buying links for ranking, excessive link exchanges and partner pages made only for cross-linking as link spam.

Why meet your SEO agency in Lagos in person?

Google suggests asking any SEO provider about its experience in your industry and your city, how you will communicate and whether it will share every change made to your site.

Meet at the clinic at least once at the start. A local team can walk the route from the gate to the front desk, take real photos for each profile and learn the landmarks patients use for directions. After that, a monthly review in person or on a call is enough.

At each review, ask for three numbers per branch: calls and website clicks from the Google profile, enquiries from treatment pages and new patients who say they found you on Google.

Questions clinic owners ask about an SEO agency in Lagos

Can an SEO agency get our clinic to first place on Google Maps?

No one can promise that. Google says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. A good team improves what Google looks at: relevance, complete details, reviews and links.

Should we create pages for every area of Lagos?

Only for areas where you have a branch or truly serve patients. Google treats pages aimed at many cities or regions that funnel to one page as doorway abuse.

Can our doctors have their own Google profiles?

Google allows a dedicated profile for a public-facing practitioner who can be reached at the clinic during its hours. Each doctor should have one profile, not one per specialty.

How do we know local SEO is working?

Track calls and website clicks from each branch's profile, enquiries from treatment pages and new patients who found you on Google. Rankings alone don't pay the bills.
