TikTok ads for clinics: are they worth it?

When TikTok ads suit a clinic, what TikTok's healthcare ad rules require, how to set age targeting, and what to test before you spend more.

TikTok ads are worth it for a clinic when three things line up: a treatment people can understand in a short video, a doctor who is comfortable on camera, and a team that replies to enquiries within minutes. They are a poor fit for urgent care, for treatments TikTok's health ad rules restrict in your market, and for clinics that cannot answer messages fast.

Why do clinic TikTok ads get views and no bookings?

A video gets thousands of views. The comments say "price?" and "where are you?". A week later the front desk has a handful of messages and no new bookings.

That gap usually has three causes. The video entertains without naming a treatment. Nobody is told what to do next. And the messages that do arrive sit for hours, while the viewer scrolls on to the next clinic.

Views cost money. Bookings pay the bills. Judge TikTok ads only by the second.

Which clinics suit TikTok ads?

TikTok is a scrolling channel. Nobody opened the app looking for a clinic, so your video has to earn the stop and teach something in seconds. That suits treatments people think about for weeks before they act.

  • Dental clinics: a dentist explaining how aligners move teeth, what a scale and polish involves, or how long whitening takes. Our dental marketing post covers the wider plan.
  • Skin and aesthetic clinics: a doctor answering one common question about a skin treatment, in plain words, with no promised result. See aesthetic clinic marketing in Nigeria.
  • Health checks and screening: a short "what happens at your visit" walk-through that takes the fear out of booking.

Education works here because it builds trust before the first message. A clinic tour or a doctor's quick answer does more than a flashy offer.

What do TikTok's healthcare ad rules say?

Read the rules before you film anything. TikTok's healthcare and pharmaceuticals ad policy sets rules market by market, and they change. Check the entry for your market, or ask TikTok directly, before you spend.

Medical institutions

In many markets the policy lists, clinics and hospitals must provide proof of approval from the local regulator, and the ad must be restricted to users aged 18 or older. Some markets do not allow medical institution ads at all.

Cosmetic and aesthetic procedures

The policy says advertisers "must work with a TikTok sales representative to determine eligibility and obtain permission to run ads." Some invasive procedures are not allowed in some markets, and aesthetic ads "must not include misleading or exaggerated claims."

Claims that get ads rejected

The policy rules out medicinal claims to treat, heal or prevent a condition, claims that a service works wonders, exaggerated performance promises, and promises of permanent changes to the body. Before-and-after comparisons are restricted in several markets. Your profession's own advertising rules apply on top.

How should a clinic set age targeting on TikTok?

TikTok's age and gender targeting offers six bands: 13-17, 18-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-54 and 55+. TikTok says age comes from what users enter at sign-up, and it may also infer attributes from activity.

For a clinic, set an 18+ floor at account level. TikTok's Audience Controls let you choose 18 or 25 as the minimum age for all new ads, so nobody on your team forgets it in a rushed campaign.

Then pick bands that match who pays. A practice selling aligners to working adults may start at 25-44. A screening package for older patients may lean 35 and up. Test, then move money to the band that books.

What should a clinic test first on TikTok ads?

  1. Pick one treatment. Choose one you can explain in under thirty seconds that patients pay for directly.
  2. Film three short videos. Same doctor, three angles: a common question, a quick clinic walk-through, and what happens at the first visit.
  3. Send every tap to one place. A landing page for that treatment or a message thread someone answers within minutes.
  4. Ask every new patient how they found you. Spend divided by patients who booked gives your cost per booking.
  5. Compare against Instagram. Run the same video through Instagram ads and keep the channel that books more for less.

When should a clinic skip TikTok?

Skip it for now if the policy does not allow your clinic or treatment in your market. Skip it if nobody on the team will appear on camera. Skip it if enquiries already wait hours for a reply, because more traffic only means more lost patients.

Most clinics should start where patients are already searching. Our post on social media ads for clinics covers the order to test Google, Meta and TikTok.

How Kren helps clinics with video ads

Questions clinic owners ask about TikTok ads

Can a clinic run TikTok ads?

It depends on the market and the treatment. TikTok's healthcare policy lists rules by country: many require proof of approval from the local regulator and an 18+ audience, and some do not allow medical institution ads. Check the current entry for your market before you spend.

Do aesthetic clinics need permission to advertise on TikTok?

Yes. TikTok's policy says cosmetic and aesthetic advertisers must work with a TikTok sales representative to confirm eligibility and get permission. Some invasive procedures are blocked in some markets.

Can we use before-and-after photos in TikTok ads?

Be careful. TikTok restricts before-and-after comparisons in several markets, and claims of permanent change to the body are not allowed. A doctor explaining the treatment is the safer ad.

How do we know if TikTok ads are working?

Count bookings, never views. Ask each new patient where they found you, then divide spend by patients who booked. Compare that number with your other channels.
