Physiotherapy marketing in Nigeria: keep every plan booked

People in pain search for what hurts and where they live. Here is how a physiotherapy clinic gets found, turns referrals into visits and keeps every plan booked.

Physiotherapy marketing in Nigeria works when people in pain can find your clinic for the condition they have, doctor referrals turn into a booked first visit, and every patient stays on the plan their physio set. Here is how a private physiotherapy clinic in Lagos or Abuja puts those pieces in place.

Why do good physiotherapy clinics still have empty slots?

A physio plan is a run of visits. When it breaks, its bookings go with it. Most empty slots come from three places.

  • Patients stop halfway. The pain eases after two or three sessions, work gets busy, and nobody books the next one.
  • People search for a condition and miss you. Someone types “back pain physio Ikeja” or “sports injury physiotherapy Abuja”. If your clinic only shows up for its own name, they call someone else.
  • Referral notes expire. A doctor tells a patient to see a physio. The note sits in a bag for a month.

Good physiotherapy marketing closes all three.

Three leaks in physiotherapy marketing: patients who stop mid-plan, condition searches the clinic misses and referral notes that never become a visit
Three leaks drain most physiotherapy bookings.

How do you show up on Google for the conditions you treat?

Patients search for what hurts and where they live. Your Google Business Profile and your website both need to match those searches.

Start with the profile. Google says a profile ranks partly on how well it matches what someone searches for and how far the business is from them, and that complete, accurate profiles are more likely to show in local results. List each condition you treat as its own service, using Google’s steps to add services to your Business Profile. If a service is missing from Google’s list, create a custom one. Google rejects custom service names that include prices or phone numbers.

Good services to list, if you offer them:

  • Back and neck pain
  • Sports injury rehab
  • Rehab after surgery
  • Stroke rehab

Our post on setting up a Google Business Profile for clinics covers the rest of the profile.

What goes on a condition page?

Give each main condition its own page on your website. Each page should answer what a worried patient wants to know:

  1. Who the treatment suits, and when to see a doctor first.
  2. What happens at the first assessment and how long it takes.
  3. How many sessions a plan usually involves, stated as a range your physios agree with.
  4. Your physios’ names and qualifications.
  5. One clear way to book a first assessment, repeated down the page.

How do you turn doctor referrals into first visits?

Referrals are warm patients, and easy to lose, because booking is left to them.

  1. Make booking easy for the referrer. Give each referring doctor a short card or link with your number and booking details.
  2. Reply fast when the patient calls, sends a DM or fills a form.
  3. Offer two assessment times instead of “When are you free?”.
  4. Thank the doctor once the patient has started, sharing only what the patient has agreed to share.

Are corporate and sports partnerships worth it?

Yes, when they lead to bookings. Office teams carry desk-related back and neck pain. Gyms, football teams and running groups carry injuries. Both are groups of people with problems a physio treats.

Offer a short talk on posture or injury prevention, led by one of your physios. End with one clear way to book an assessment, and track which partner each new patient came from. If a partner sends nobody after a few months, spend that time elsewhere.

How do reminders keep patients on their treatment plan?

Keep each plan on track with a few habits:

  • Book the next two or three sessions before the patient leaves.
  • Send a reminder the day before each session.
  • If a session is missed, send a “book your next session” message the same day.
  • Check in a few weeks after the plan ends.

Whether a patient continues is their choice and your physio’s advice. The aim is that nobody drops off simply because nobody followed up. Keep conditions out of reminder messages, since other people see phone screens. Our post on reducing patient no-shows covers timing and wording.

What advertising care do physiotherapy clinics need?

Physiotherapists in Nigeria are licensed by the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists (Registration) Board of Nigeria, which renews licences every year and publishes a Code of Ethics. Read the current code, or ask your professional adviser, before you run any campaign. Within any rules, keep these habits:

  • Promise no recovery times or results. Describe the assessment and what treatment involves.
  • Use patient photos, videos or stories only with written consent.
  • Keep patient details out of ads, posts and replies.

Reviews still matter. Ask every patient after their plan, and reply without confirming anyone was treated. Our post on getting and replying to Google reviews has sample wording.

Questions clinic owners ask about physiotherapy marketing

Most of our patients come from doctor referrals. Do we need marketing?

Referrals are valuable, and a fast way to book makes more of them turn into visits. But people with back pain or a sports injury also search for a physio themselves. If you want more of those self-referred patients, you need to show up when they search.

Should we sell session packages?

That is the clinic’s decision. A package can make it easier for a patient to commit to the full plan. Only sell what your physios would recommend anyway, and be clear about what happens if the patient stops early.

Can we advertise without promising recovery?

Yes. Say what you treat, how an assessment works, who your physios are and how to book. Check the Board’s Code of Ethics before any campaign goes live.

How soon should we follow up a missed session?

The same day, once, with a simple way to book the next session.
