My clinic is new: how do I get my first 100 patients?
The launch checklist for a new clinic, in order: Google profile, a website with one way to book, fast replies, honest reviews, referrals, then ads, and what to count each week.
By the Kren Agency team ·
The first 100 patients new clinic owners book rarely come from one big launch. They come from five things set up before and just after opening: a complete Google profile, a simple website with one way to book, fast replies to every enquiry, honest reviews from early patients, and referrals from people nearby. Ads come last, once those work.
Still at the licensing stage? Start with how to start a private hospital in Nigeria, then come back here.

1. Get found on Google before opening day
Most new patients will search before they call. Your Google Business Profile is what they see on Google Search and Google Maps.
Google says local results depend on three things: relevance, distance and prominence. It also says to make your business info as complete as possible, and that verified businesses are more likely to show up in results.
- Verify the profile early. Verification can take time, so don't leave it to opening week.
- Fill in everything. Name, address, phone, hours, category and the services you offer.
- Add real photos. The entrance, the signboard, reception and a consulting room help a first-time patient find the door.
Our post on setting up a Google Business Profile for clinics walks through each field.
2. Give patients one clear way to book
A new clinic has no reputation yet, so the website must reassure. Keep it simple: who you are, which doctors see patients, what you treat, where you are, and how to book.
Put one booking action on every page: a call button, a short form or a message link. A patient who has to hunt for a phone number often books somewhere else.

3. Answer every enquiry the same day
A missed call or a DM left until tomorrow is a patient you worked to attract and then lost.
- Name an owner for each channel. Calls, DMs, website forms and walk-ins each need one person responsible.
- Agree a reply time. Then check it weekly against real messages.
- Agree the answer to "How much?" A range or a reason to come in, never a cold figure and silence.
- Call back missed calls the same day.
Our post on lead generation for clinics covers where enquiries come from and how to track each one.
4. Ask early patients for reviews, the honest way
A new profile with no reviews looks untested. Your first patients can change that, if you ask properly.
Google's rules are clear. Its Maps user contributed content policy says businesses may encourage reviews that reflect a genuine experience. They must not offer incentives, pressure patients, ask for specific content, or selectively ask only happy patients. Reviews from staff count as a conflict of interest.
- Ask every patient, at the end of the visit, with a direct review link or QR code.
- No discounts or gifts in exchange for a review.
- Reply to every review without confirming the person was a patient or naming any treatment.
More on this in our post on Google reviews for clinics.

5. Build referrals and local ties
- Your own network. Tell colleagues, former workplaces and professional groups exactly what you now treat and where.
- Nearby providers. Introduce yourself to pharmacies, general practices and labs around you. Leave clear details of your services and how to book.
- Employers. Offices near the clinic may welcome a health talk or a staff check-up day.
- Community. Estates, associations and places of worship nearby often hold health events.
Keep every referral arrangement within the rules of your profession, and keep patient details private when you report back to a referrer.

6. Add ads once the basics work
Ads bring enquiries faster, but they also expose every gap. If the profile is half-done or calls go unanswered, ad spend turns into missed patients.
Start small with one treatment, a tight area around the clinic, and a page or message destination that leads straight to booking. Health ads must follow Google's and Meta's ad rules and your profession's advertising rules: no promised outcomes. Our post on how to advertise your clinic on Google covers the first campaign.
How to measure your first 100 patients
You can't improve what you don't count. From day one, ask every new patient one question: how did you hear about us? Log the answer.
Each week, count three numbers by source: enquiries, bookings and patients who actually arrived. Over time you'll see which channels bring patients and which only bring questions. Put more effort into the first group.
Watch the gap between booked and arrived too. Confirmations and reminders close it; see our post on how to reduce patient no-shows.

Questions clinic owners ask about the first 100 patients
How long does it take a new clinic to get 100 patients?
It depends on your location, specialty, competition and how well each step above is set up. Nobody can honestly promise a timeline. Counting enquiries, bookings and arrivals every week shows you whether you are moving faster or slower.
Should a new clinic start with ads or with Google?
Start with your Google Business Profile, a website with one way to book, and fast replies. Ads send more people to those steps, so they work better once those steps are ready.
Can we offer a discount for Google reviews?
No. Google's policy says content posted because of an incentive offered by a business is not allowed and will be removed. Ask every patient for an honest review instead.
What should we track from the first week?
Where each patient heard about you, plus weekly enquiries, bookings and arrivals by source. Those numbers show where the first 100 patients new clinic owners win actually come from.
